Kalen Report

Here is Kalen Thursday after his vet appt for a foot wrap change taking a snooze on our bed. Surgery was 7 days ago. His next appointment is Sat when we hope the wrap and stitches will be gone. He had so much trauma with this little removal of a partial dew claw. He had diarrhea so bad up until today when I saw improvement finally. He had vomiting from a bad reaction to a pain med two nights ago. He's on Metronidazole now for this as the diarrhea meds did not work at all. He lost 4 pounds in the process and his neutering surgery did not seem to bother him like this foot. I had to cancel my trip to Kodiak on Tue as I would not leave him sick like this I was so worried.  *Now Thurs night Pan is starting with the vomiting all his food up. I'm not sure what is going on with him he was perfectly fine before.

aww! poor babies. I hope they both feel better soon. I just changed figgy an Frannies food to one for sensitive systems because figgy pukes all the time. It seems to have made a difference! thank god.. getting out of bed and stepping in it is a bad way to start the day!!
have a great weekend. I bet you'll be sewing something!

Nan we had similar issues with our bullies. Sensitive to so much. The metro-med just chews up their tummy. Ended up giving them rice to ease the constant potty problem. Nothing seemed to work. Best of luck, it did finally work its way through. What a sweet baby...enjoy your holiday weekend...smiles...Renee

Oh goodness, this is not good. Now I'm hurting because you are hurting. I guess that is what friends are for. We love dogs and hurt when they hurt. I have no medical solutions but I have prayer. I often pray for my dogs and when we almost lost Sadie two years ago to a horrible infection which caused her to have a complete hysterectomy I cried and prayed through the whole thing and she is a healthy girl today!
Love you-Jackie

Sorry about your trip but I would have done the same thing. We almost lost a cat when she was spayed and declawed at the same time. She just quit eating and had a high fever. I took her to our vet and she didn't get better. I called a friend that was a vet and actually the person who gave us the kitty. She picked her up and took her home and loaded her with fluids. She literally brought her back to life. WHen Piper had Parvo another vet told me he had a 50/50 chance to live and gave me a can of Science Canned dog food. I would mix that with Pedialyte and add water as he drank it. Someone else told me to give him pumpkin. I guess it helps with their tummies. I would really try to hydrate him as much as possible. It probably is the claw thing. If you don't get answers call another vet. So sorry, this has to be scary. Get better Kalen.

Oh Nan!!!!
I bet you were panicked, I sure would have been....Bryan was going to have Abbey's dewclaws done when he had her spayed....after seeing this mess you have had I am SO glad he didn't.....my heart just goes out to Kalen...tell him Aunt Sandy loves him and wished him a speedy recovery! There are so many "sensitive" dog food products out there now, who knows what to use????

Gee, I hope both Kalen and Pan feel better soon. This surgery has been hard on all of you.

Poor babies! And you too! I hope they are both better soon. Oliver has his dew claws and they are so difficult to trim with his longer hair. Hugs to all of you.

I have gotten so far behind in reading your blog--just spent time catching up. First thing I want to say is how much Michael has changed--and how mature he looks on here--not to mention how much better these glasses are compared to the military ones he got stuck with when he graduated. It's been so much fun to watch him and Dallas grow-am anxious to see pictures of Dallas graduation. I sure fell behind and had to go on a hunt to read about Kalen--so glad to see that he's on the mend now.

Oh nan I sure hope your Pups get to feeling better, we had a dog with a sensitive stomach and had to switch her food to a special one found at the Pet store, I cannot remember the name of it! Darn! That poor little pup oxox, Diane
